The inaugural Northern Agency Five-a-side Football (NAFF) Cup took place on the 18th of May 2019.
Agencies from across the county joined together to raise money for Lancashire Mind, have fun and show off their sporting prowess.
The competition was fierce, from the opening kick-off to the final whistle, with seven teams competing to be the first agency to lift the coveted NAFF Cup for the first time.
Door4, Bespoke and A&P were knocked out at the group stage, with 4 teams progressing to the semis.
Much like in every level of football, there was no shortage of drama. The Golden Boot winner, Byron Harris from Heckford, scored an amazing 11 goals before having to be stretchered to A&E with a snapped achilles tendon. (We wish him a speedy recovery!)
Even with an impressive goal tally, Heckford couldn’t quite do enough to make it to the finals and, along with hosts every1, were pipped to the post in the semi-finals. Blue Wren and Digital 22 both went onto the last match of the day, with Clitheroe’s Digital 22 taking the win and the NAFF Cup home.
At the post-tournament press-conference (chatting at a local pub) every1’s Team Captain Luke Rossall, said: “The day was fantastic. The competition was friendly and, while we didn’t win, we’re pretty proud of our 4-1 victory over Door4 (sorry lads). We’re eagerly looking forward to the trophy’s return to our offices after next year’s competition.”
Fundraising target surpassed
The tournament was held with the aim of raising money for Lancashire Mind, a worthy cause that helps support mental health.
