We were asked by the Royal Exchange Theatre to create a fun and frolicking poster image for a classic production of William Shakespere's 'AS YOU LIKE IT.'
The story centre's around Rosalind who is banished by Duke Frederick, his daughter Celia runs away with her to the Forest of Arden where Rosalind’s father Duke Senior is in hiding. Orlando also escapes there from his dangerous brother Oliver. Rosalind and Orlando are already in love but in the forest Rosalind is disguised as a man...
Full of great characters, beautiful words, singing, dancing and jokes 'AS YOU LIKE IT' shows a fragmented, bitter and broken world being remade into something completely different.
Our exploration led to an abstract image with 70's hippy chic and festival influences, with a subtle dark, satirical undertones in the way human anatomy is used to portray the Forrest of Arden, centering on the main title treatment which is layered into the shape of a heart.
